We have been using books from the Critical Thinking Company for years, so when Timberdoodle offered us a chance to get one for free in exchange for providing a review, I jumped at the chance. They sent us Mathematical Reasoning D, and since Emmett was growing quite bored and frustrated with his regular math, this gave us just the break we needed.
Our primary math text is Horizons, but as soon as he saw this book, he was eager to have work from it assigned. After a few weeks of Mathematical Reasoning, when asked how he felt about it, he answered, “Okay. It’s certainly better than my other one.”

As Emmett’s teacher, here are the things that I love about the Mathematical Reasoning books:
The pages are colorful.
There is a wide range of skills covered.
Concepts are presented clearly.
The category (algebra, geometry, etc.) being covered is listed at the top of each page.
There is a detailed table of contents at the front of the book, listing each skill and where to find it throughout the book – this makes it easy if we need to focus on just one area for awhile.
Skills are alternated every few pages to give variety, if working straight through the book.
There is creativity and fun built into the exercises.
